WHISTLER SPIRIT RUN – 7TH YEAR A HUGE SUCCESS
Cliff & Winter successfully defend 1st place titles
October 1, 2014 – Whistler, BC – The Whistler Spirit Run, presented by Rio Tinto Alcan, is pleased to announce that defending overall Spirit Run Champions, Rachel Cliff and Chris Winter were successful again and placed 1st in their respective races at the beautiful Whistler Olympic Park. Almost three thousand dollars in prize money, courtesy of SierraSil was distributed to the podium finishers in the 6km & 8km, Men’s and Women’s races.

“We were very fortunate to have fantastic weather and participation levels that exceeded our expectations”, said Peter Diemer, President of the Organizing Committee. “Our great sponsors, volunteers and organizing committee helped us deliver another distinguished event for the Sea-to-Sky region and we’re already planning for 2015.”
Spectacular sunshine and warm temperatures were enjoyed by everyone in the Callaghan Valley for the 7th annual Whistler Spirit Run. The event had record attendance and strong finishes from a very competitive field that included some of the top athletes in the world alongside local high school and elementary school runners. The always entertaining 4 x 2km Relay Race and Family Fun Run was a major highlight and allowed everyone of all ages and skill to participate again this year. A true festival atmosphere ensued as Whistler Olympic Park invited attendees and visitors to try their skills at laser biathlon and their ski jumping clinic.

The Whistler Spirit Run, part of the Vancouver Sun Run Series & the BC Athletics Lower Mainland Cross-Country & Trail Running Series, features something for everyone at Whistler Olympic Park. It is the realization of the late coach Frank Reynolds’ vision to have a mass participation cross country event while encouraging and supporting British Columbia High School and University athletes through charitable donations and scholarship programs.
