The 2021 Vancouver Spirit Run, presented by Vancouver Running Company, took place Sunday, September 26, 2021 at beautiful Jericho Beach Park. Sanctioned by BC Athletics, the Cross Country and Trail running event featured something for everyone – from elite athletes and competitive age group runners to families looking to get outside and be active after a couple of years of limited events due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
With nearly 600 registrants, the 2021 Vancouver Spirit Run was the largest in the 15-year history of the event and the smiles on the participants and families faces showed just how happy people were to be back to in person racing! In addition to a great family event, spectators were treated to some great races featuring top local elites. In the men’s open race, a three-way battle ensured between teammates of the Horizon Track Club. Cameron Proceviat, who had a breakthrough season on the track this past spring running 3:37 for 1500m, pulled away from his competitors over the final 2km loop. Completing the top three were Carlos Vargas (2nd) and Marc-Antoine Rouleau (3rd). In the women’s race, Emma Jourdain of the Vancouver Falcons Athletic Club began conservatively, moving up through the field over the final few kilometers to take win. Behind her were Katrina Alison of the Vancouver Thunderbirds (2nd) and Katherine Watson of the Vancouver Falcons Athletic Clubs (3rd) . Full Results can be found online at www.vancouverspiritrun.com
