The Vancouver Spirit Run has its humble beginnings as the Whistler Spirit Run. It was a pre-legacy event for the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics – using the Olympic cross country skiing venue in the Callaghan Valley as its location. From 2008 to 2014, the Whistler Spirit Run gathered runners young and young at heart to run amidst the majestic backdrop of the Whistler and Blackcomb mountains. Rain or shine, cold or hot, the event was always a success and offered a weekend getaway for those looking to race and have a bit of a holiday as well. The culmination of the Whistler Spirit Run was a volunteer appreciation reception held at the Pan Pacific hotel. The Whistler Spirit Run was not only a beautiful event, but a fun and community-spirited one as well.

In 2015, the mountain event moved to the beach, with the race occurring at Jericho Beach Park. With the location now in Vancouver, the now-named Vancouver Spirit Run offered more accessibility for racers and therefore participation has flourished since. The Vancouver Spirit Run continues to be beautiful, fun and full of community spirit. We are grateful for the many volunteers and sponsors that have given time, funds and prizes so that our event can be a successful one.

Below is a curated collection of our favourite moments at the Spirit Runs. Camaraderie, family, sportsmanship and fun are all at the heart of the Vancouver Spirit Run. We have so many photos to share, but we can’t display them all here! You can, however, scroll down the page to visit our Flickr Stream for more action.
