FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: June 9, 2011 – Vancouver, BC – The Whistler Spirit Run is proud to announce that Rio Tinto Alcan is the new Presenting Sponsor for the exciting event that will take place on September 24th, 2011. The Whistler Spirit Run, part of the Vancouver Sun Run Series, is a running competition that takes place at Whistler Olympic Park. It features something for everyone and is the realization of Frank Reynolds’ vision to foster healthy communities throughout the region by providing funds to British Columbia athletes through charitable donations and scholarship programs.

Since the first Whistler Spirit Run three years ago, the event has attracted people of all ages and built strong relationships. This year’s version will consist of cross country events of various distances for individuals, schools and club teams, a fun 4x2KM team relay and competitive races where substantial prize money will be offered. The Whistler Spirit Run is part of the BC Athletics Cross Country Running Series, where runners have the opportunity to collect points towards the overall series.

A perpetual trophy is being specially created that will be proudly and permanently displayed in the day lodge at Whistler Olympic Park. All teams – corporate, school, family and fun teams are encouraged to register for this fun event. Who will WIN the trophy for the very first time? We’ll find out on September 24th.
