FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: July 10, 2015 – VANCOUVER, CANADA

July 10, 2015 – Vancouver, BC – The Callaghan Valley Sport & Cultural Society, the organising group for The Vancouver Spirit Run, is very pleased to announce that the world’s top running brand ASICS has expanded their relationship with the event to become its new presenting sponsor.

The Vancouver Spirit Run, scheduled for Sunday September 13, 2015, is part of the Vancouver Sun Run Series and the BC Athletics Lower Mainland Series, and is a Cross Country and Trail running event featuring something for everyone. The new home for The Spirit Run is the spectacular Jericho Beach Park, a course that recently hosted the Canadian Cross-Country Championships and will be home to the 2015 BC High School Cross Country Championships.

We are thrilled to expand our commitment to presenting Sponsor. The core values promoted by the Spirit Run directly meet with the original founding principles of the ASICS brand-Sound Mind, Sound Body”, said Yves Simard, VP of Sales and Marketing at Asics Canada Corporation.  “With the Spirit Run moving to Vancouver, we truly view this as a wonderful opportunity to get more involved in the cross-country and trail running community in the region.”

The Vancouver Spirit Run is the realisation of the late coach Frank Reynolds’ vision to have a mass participation cross country event while encouraging and supporting British Columbia High School and University athletes through charitable donations and scholarship programs.

“ASICS is a founding partner for the Spirit Run and have been a strong supporter of the event in many different ways for the last eight years”, said Peter Diemer, Chair of The Callaghan Valley Sport & Cultural Society. “We are very excited to work even more closely with ASICS to continue to provide an excellent race day experience overall and additional opportunities to give back to everyone in our community”.

Since the first Whistler Spirit Run eight years ago, the event has attracted thousands of people of all ages and built strong relationships in our region. This year’s edition will consist of cross country events of various distances for school and club teams, a family fun-run a 4x1KM team relay, and individual competitive races where substantial prize money will be offered from SierraSil. In addition, The Vancouver Spirit Run is part of the Vancouver Sun Run Series and the BC Athletics Lower Mainland Cross Country Series, where runners have the opportunity to collect points towards the overall series.

The 2015 Vancouver Spirit Run takes place on Sunday September 13th and will see a diverse group of athletes cross the finish line. All athletes and teams – corporate, school, family and fun groups are encouraged to register for this inspiring event.
