Whistler Spirit Run – Year 5

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: SEPTEMBER 10, 2012 – WHISTLER OLYMPIC PARK

Part of Lower Mainland Cross Country Series

September 10, 2012 – Whistler, BC – The 5th annual Whistler Spirit Run, presented by Rio Tinto Alcan, set for September 22, 2012 is very proud to announce that once again the event will officially be part of the Lower Mainland Cross Country Series and that convenient on-line registration is available directly via www.whistlerspiritrun.com.

The Whistler Spirit Run, part of the Vancouver Sun Run Series, is a Cross Country and Trail running event featuring something for everyone at Whistler Olympic Park. It is the realization of the late coach Frank Reynolds’ vision to have a mass participation cross country event while encouraging and supporting British Columbia High School and University athletes through charitable donations and scholarship programs.

“We have worked extremely hard over the last year to become more involved in the Sea-To-Sky corridor and the local community. With the addition of long time Whistler resident, local sports enthusiast and volunteer Diana Rochon to our organization, it’s allowed us to become even more connected to Whistler and consider local initiatives that will make a difference in the region”, said Peter Diemer, Board Member for The Whistler Spirit Run.

Since the first Whistler Spirit Run four years ago, the event has attracted people of all ages and built strong relationships. This year’s version will consist of cross country events of various distances for school and club teams, a family fun-run a 4x2KM team relay and individual competitive races where substantial prize money will be offered from SierraSil. The Whistler Spirit Run is part of the Lower Mainland Cross Country Series, where runners have the opportunity to collect points towards the overall series.

Everyone is encouraged to take part and register in this year’s exciting event. The Whistler Spirit Run sees a variety of athletes cross the finish line and all teams – corporate, school, family and fun teams are encouraged to register for this event.
