May 3, 2016 – Vancouver, BC – The Vancouver Spirit Run, presented by Asics, is pleased to announce the recipients of The Frank Reynolds Bursary – Michael Milic of Delta, BC and Mikayla Tinkham of Walnut Grove, BC.
This award is administered by the Board of Directors of the Vancouver Spirit Run and financed from the proceeds of the Vancouver Spirit Run and support from our sponsors. Eligible applicants must be residents of BC and be matriculating students progressing to post-secondary study. The $500.00 Bursaries are awarded to individual(s) who have: demonstrated exceptional ability and show considerable promise in Track and Field, Road Running, or Cross Country Running (Athletics), demonstrate financial need, have attained an acceptable academic record, and have demonstrated qualities of character, leadership, and volunteering.

The Spirit Run has grown to be a successful event, recognized as a destination run for people of all ages and ability in the sea-to-sky corridor and beyond”, said Peter Diemer, President of the Vancouver Spirit Run organizing committee. “I would also like to thank our selection committee for choosing such worthy recipients again this year, and we wish them continued success in their athletic pursuits and post-secondary education”.
2016 – RECIPIENTS OF THE FRANK REYNOLDS BURSARY
Michael Milic – A grade 12 athlete from Seaquam Secondary in Delta, B.C., Michael has participated in a variety of sports at the high school level, including cross country and track and field. In addition to his excellence in athletics, Michael has also maintained an excellent academic average and is an avid member of the school’s Robotics Club. His passion for robotics has led him to pursue a degree in engineering and plans to attend SFU or UBC next fall having been accepted into both engineering programs.
Mikayla Tinkham – A grade 12 student currently attending Walnut Grove Secondary School Mikayla participants in a number of sports including track & field, volleyball, basketball and soccer. Through her high school years she has trained with the Golden Ears Track & Field Club and is an active volunteer in the community serving as a track coach for Golden Ears Athletics Club’s junior developmental program. In addition, she also volunteers at the Maple Ridge Health Unit for Child Health Care (CHC) immunization and flu clinics. This fall Mikayla plans to attend the University of British Columbia and hopes to enroll in the Bachelor of Nursing program.

The 2016 Vancouver Spirit Run is set for September 25th, 2016 at Jericho Beach Park. The Vancouver Spirit Run, part of the Vancouver Sun Run Series, is a Cross Country and Trail running event featuring something for everyone at Jericho Beach Park. It is the realization of the late coach Frank Reynolds’ vision to have a mass participation cross country event while encouraging and supporting British Columbia High School and University athletes through charitable donations and scholarship programs.
